The New Case Basse Cellar

The New Case Basse Cellar

Case Basse, which continuously strives for excellence, has created in 2001 a new cellar, a project thought up exclusively by Gianfranco Soldera and realized by Arch.S.Lambardi using natural materials to ensure the best conditions for vinification, ageing and bottling

The new cellar at Case Basse is on three levels:

1) the service area where destemming is carried out, during the harvest period, as well as labelling of bottles and storage of boxes about to be shipped;

2) the vinification area, containing large oak vats

3) the “heart” of the cellar, where the wines mature and age in Slavonian oak casks for long periods (cfr photo). This cellar was Gianfranco Soldera’s idea – with the realization of Arch.S.Lambardi – in order to guarantee the best conditions for the wines to remain. Built 14 metres under ground, using only natural materials (corten iron supporting structures, stone floors, ceilings and walls) without cement, this “grotto” enables us to maintain a high degree of humidity, a constant and suitable temperature and an important natural recirculation of the air.
